Former Lakers player Brian Shaw talked about the increasing salary levels of NBA players in the podcast show Byron Scott 's Fast Break.

"I only made $150,000 in the first few years in the NBA, and then the players asked me, 'Coach, how do you live with this little money?'. When I was a coach, I had a 9- to 10-day East Coast trip with my own players, and they only brought a backpack and all their luggage were there. They would go to the mall to buy clothes, throw away old clothes, and buy new ones. They only needed a backpack to travel because it was incredibly expensive for them," said Xiao.

Bryan Shaw entered the NBA in 1988 and spent the first two years of his career in the Celtics.

The NBA salary cap for the 1984-85 season was US$3.6 million, and the salary cap for the 2025-26 season was US$154.647 million.
