The Spanish media El Pais reported that the Barcelona Public Health Agency has launched an investigation after a worker involved in the Camp Nou project was diagnosed with tuberculosis.

According to reports, the worker has begun receiving treatment. The agency has identified 23 close contacts of the worker and three others are under observation. Currently, the agency believes that there is no widespread infection.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is spread through the air, through droplets of saliva expelled when coughing, sneezing, or talking, and primarily affects the lungs, although it may also damage other organs in the body. Although its incidence has declined in Spain in recent years, experts stress the importance of early diagnosis and complete treatment in order to avoid new infections, as it is a serious disease. 85% of infected people recover within six months of treatment.

This incident also caused another setback in the construction process of the new Camp Nou. On Tuesday, as many as 50 fired employees gathered together to protest against the person responsible for the stadium construction.
